Perkin-Elmer Get-togethers

Many P-E Retirees like to get together to find out "Whassup", and to recall the people and projects of the "Perkin-Elmer that used to be". Add pizza and beer, lunch (or whatever) and the get-togethers become regular established events.

In the Danbury Area:

Get-togethers are normally held at Noon on the last Wednesday of each month at Chuck's Steakhouse, 20 Segar Street, Danbury (phone 203-792-5555). Attendees are mostly from the Optical Shop-Methods and Metrology. For information, contact Bud Rigby via e-mail at or phone 203-438-5702.

Another one in the Danbury Area.

This group meets weekly in the food court at the Danbury Fair Mall every Thursday between 12:00 Noon and about 3:00 p.m. All are welcome at any time. The first arrival stakes out a table, or two, near the carousel. Everybody gets his own meal at any one of the dozen or more food venues in the court. We talk about everything under the sun.

In the Ridgefield Area:

Held on the last Wednesday of each month (except December) at 5:30 p.m. at the new John's Best Pizza Restaurant, 955 Ethan Allen Highway (aka Route 7), Ridgefield. For information, contact Bud Rigby by email at or phone 203-438-5702.

(If you have a regularly scheduled Get-together in your area, and would like to have it included in The Retiree Club News, please send the information to .)

In the Bridgeport, Stratford, Shelton, Trumbull Area:

A monthly breakfast get-together for former P-E people is normally held on the first Friday of every month at 8:30 a.m. at the Riverside Diner, 521 River Road in Shelton. Attendees generally represent the former P-E Danbury facility, but any former P-E member is welcome. For information, contact Eph Tobin at (203) 268-9086 or by email at

Also in the Shelton Area:

A small group of Perkin-Elmer retirees who formerly worked in Danbury meet for breakfast on the First Friday of each month at the Riverdale Diner in Shelton. The diner is at the intersection of Constitution Boulevard and River Road. For information, email Bill Sennello at

In the Orange County, California Area:

The California group meets once a year in September at the Citrus Café in Tustin, CA, and is called the Optics Industry Alumni group. Our annual event is called the Optics Industry Alumni Happy Hour. This group is made up not so much of retirees but Alumni of various former Perkin-Elmer divisions and their successors (which includes many P-E retirees). The group has recently been expanded to include alumni of other precision optical companies as well. The core of the participants are from the former Perkin-Elmer Applied Optics/OCA/Corning OCA group which was formerly located in Garden Grove, CA. The group usually meets the 4th Tuesday of September and invitations are sent out by e-mail. Anyone interested in attending future happy hours should contact Sharon Canfield at or phone 949-548-8057 to be placed on the mailing list.

Citrus Café is located at 1481 Edinger Ave., Tustin, CA 92780, and the event runs from 6:00pm 8:00pm.
